Project Management
Project Management This year the city has asked BERC to manage the RFP process for three Downtown sites. BERC will draft the RFPs, including the creation of marketing materials, etc; manage the RFP process, and assist in the selection process. In the past, BERC contracted with the City of Bridgeport to create Requests for Proposals for the Downtown North Redevelopment Project and an East Side Retail Development Project. All of these projects will help to rebuild the physical infrastructure of Bridgeport, and particularly the downtown area, stimulating economic growth, which is the only long-term solution to many of the challenges confronting the City of Bridgeport. Economic growth brings jobs and tax revenues, two critical components of any strategy to address poverty, unemployment, career opportunities, homeownership and education. In 1999 BERC played an integral role in the formation of the Metal Manufacturers’ Education and Training Alliance (META). At its creation, the state’s metal manufacturing cluster represented 500 employees from eleven member companies. Today METAL comprises eighteen companies, representing nearly 2,000 employees. In 2004, BERC continued to support METAL by partnering with The Workplace Inc. in the submission of two successful grant applications which brought $144,500 to the cluster to support its programs.
