METAL
In 1999, BERC founded the
Metal Manufacturers’ Education and Training Alliance, a
network of local metal manufacturers from the Greater Bridgeport
CT area which employ over 1,650 local residents.
Since January of 1999, METAL has:
- Leveraged over $2 million in State,
Federal and private sector funding to support its Job
Training & Lean Manufacturing programs.
- Designed and implemented 58 employee
training classes in 21 different subject areas.
- Trained 679 employees through its
workforce development program.
- Achieved a 53% increase in proficiency
as measured by pre and post test scores.
- Assisted Housatonic Community College
to establish a new 2-year associate degree in metal
manufacturing.
- Saved METAL companies an estimated
$1,240,000 through METAL’s Lean Program.
- Provided the opportunity for METAL’s
Lean Experts to garner additional annual savings of
$2,250,000 per year for the eight companies participating in
the program.
- Engaged 15 companies in Lean
manufacturing activities.
- Conducted 13 lean assessments, 33
Kaizen events and 20 lean awareness sessions.
- Exposed 300 employees to lean
principals.
- Incorporated 12 Waterbury area
companies into METAL’s Lean program at a cost of $67,000.
- Designed and implemented a rigorous
nine month Certified Lean Expert Development Program.
- Incorporated the Cluster.
- Completed a detailed 4-year Strategic
Plan.
